ORIGINAL EMAIL
Dear Members of SIGOPEN,
Happy new year!
This email is (1) to provide a quick update on SIGOPEN’s activities in 2016, and (2) to hold a virtual election of our new officers for Jan 2017 – Dec 2018.
Please read through as your action is needed in regard to the second point!
2016 Update
It was a productive year for SIGOPEN:
• SIGOPEN was presented with an AIS Outstanding SIG Award for 2015.
• We organized SIGOPEN-affiliated tracks at both AMCIS 2016 and ECIS 2016.
• Many of our individual members were also involved in organizing the highly successful track on “Crowdsourcing, Crowdfunding, Blockchain and the Sharing Economy” at ICIS 2016.
• SIGOPEN members were also involved in organizing OpenSym 2016, the doctoral consortium of IFIP2.13 (Open Source Systems), and a special issue of the Journal of Information Technology to be published in 2017, among other activities.
• We hosted the SIGOPEN 2016 Developmental Workshop for Openness Research, and co-organized the Issues in Shared and Collaborative Scientific Research Workshop, both immediately prior to ICIS 2016.
• We held our AGM at ICIS 2016 on Dec 12.Virtual Election
Although the AGM on Dec 12 at ICIS 2016 provided an opportunity to introduce new AIS members to SIGOPEN’s history, vision, and plans, we failed to meet a voting quorum of official SIG members (that’s a nice problem to have as it means we have a large official membership). In accordance with our by-laws, as are therefore hosting this virtual election.
The outgoing officers are:
* (PRESIDENT) Prof Joseph Feller, University College Cork, IRELAND.
* (PRESIDENT ELECT) Prof Matt Germonprez, University of Nebraska at Omaha, USA.
* (SECRETARY) Dr. Matthew Levy, San Francisco State University, USA
* (TREASURER) Dr. Lorraine Morgan, NUI Maynooth, IRELANDTwo of the officers for Jan 2017 – Dec 2018 are automatically deemed elected:
* (PRESIDENT) Prof Matt Germonprez, University of Nebraska at Omaha, USA.
* (IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT) Prof Joseph Feller, University College Cork, IRELAND.The nominees for the remaining officers are as follows:
* (PRESIDENT ELECT) Dr. Lorraine Morgan, NUI Maynooth, IRELAND

3. Otherwise simply indicate that you are in support of the nominations above.
4. If there are additional nominations we will organize a virtual vote to deal with those offices, otherwise we will deem these nominees elected.
5. Please take the time to respond so that we can officially reach the 25% quorum of members needed. While you are at it: in 2017 SIGOPEN will have tracks at ECIS and AMCIS, are again involved with OpenSym, and will organize a workshop or two at ICIS. If you want to get involved in any of these (or lead the charge on other activities) please let me know and I’ll connect you to the relevant parties.
